A recent poll conducting by CNN, USA TODAY, and the Gallup Organization revealed that more Americans identify themselves as Independents (35%) than as either Republicans (32%) or Democrats (31%). Despite the growing plurity of Independent voters, they are continually excluded from the American political process by the major two parties which control who gets on the ballot in elections, what issues become a part of the national dialogue, and who gets to participate in the discussion.

Independents are an untapped force that can bring political power back to the American people if they will organize and become active in demanding electoral reform. The hurdles erected by the major two parties to exclude outside political competition must be challenged. The desire for political alternatives is great, especially among young voters. More than 70% of college-age students say they want more choices in the political arena. The future of our democracy depends on the silent majority of American Independents organizing and changing the rules of politics so our government serves all of the people instead of a powerful few. Read the issues and take action.
