FLIRTING WITH POWER: Film Synopsis

A real look a the presidential election process and third party politics in the United States.

This intriguing and thought-provoking program examines H. Ross Perot’s 1992 campaign for the presidency, its origins as a grassroots political movement, and Perot’s rise in political stature from a raw political outsider to a viable candidate who won 19% of the popular vote. While Perot lost the election, his supporters fundamentally altered the landscape of American politics. Behind the scenes of the Perot campaigns and the birth of the Reform Party in 1996, the program examines the regulations and procedures that govern a run for the presidency, the media that shape public opinion, and additional issues related to the two-party political system. As young voters approach and enter the political arena, it’s critical that they are challenged to participate in their own government, and understand the importance of voting their convictions. This program provides a stimulating platform for the exploration and discussion of these issues.
